FAQ

CONTACT ME

- Getting to know you -

Is my date available?

The absolute best way to find this out is to ask me! I love chatting.

Will you be shooting any other weddings that day?

I make a point of only shooting one session per day, especially when it comes to weddings. There are rare exceptions, like on mini-session or marathon session days, but never with weddings. I rarely, if ever, even take more than one wedding per weekend!

- Proof is in the Pudding -

Do you have photos of entire weddings that I can see?

I surely do! Check my examples out here.

Have you ever shot a wedding at my venue? If not, will you check it out in advance?

I’ve photographed all across the state, and even the country! Feel free to let me know your venue and I’ll let you know if I’ve shot there before. Either way, if you’d like, I’d be more than happy to take a walk-through with you. Regardless, well before the wedding I always discuss plans/layouts with the planner/coordinator, check out images online, and talk to you about specifics, as well as do a walk-through once I arrive on the day of the wedding.

- Details -

What is your fee? What is included? Engagement shots? Album? Retouching?

All of my pricing information can be found on the pricing page. My packages start at $2900 for basic coverage, but I do love making custom packages, especially for elopements! All of the images you see and receive from YouAreRaven.com are always going to be fully retouched and print-ready.

Do you work with a second shooter?

Yep, almost always! I have a group of talented and like-minded people I pull from, all of whom own their own businesses, as well. Having two photographers gives us more coverage, multiple angles, and someone to help me out during the day, though I’m perfectly happy shooting alone, as well. I do shoot alone for elopements or small, intimate weddings, however.

Can I purchase the copyright to the pictures?

The USB of images that comes with every package comes with a personal usage release, allowing you to print, create products, and share the images to your heart’s content!

When will the final balance be due?

Typically 4 weeks before the wedding, or 8 weeks if travel is involved. I don’t want to bother you any closer to your date with money matters!

Do you charge a travel fee? If so, what does that cover?

I do, and it’s always at 25% LESS THAN cost because I L-O-V-E traveling! I’m happy to give you a custom quote, and it’ll include transportation, food, and lodging. I never, ever have surprise costs.

What payment types do you accept?

Cash, check, credit/debit card, or bank transfer.

Do you offer payment plans?

All of my contracts come with the total payment automatically split into thirds, though we can customize that.

Can I see a sample contract?

Sure thing! Send me a note and I’ll send one right out to you.

How far in advance do I need to book with you?

The sooner, the better! The best time is between 12-8 months before your wedding, but it all just depends on your situation and the timing.  Once we’re discussing your wedding, I’ll let you know immediately if someone else contacts me inquiring about your date. Your date is not held or booked until the contract is signed and the deposit is received, but I will definitely let you know that someone else is interested in that same date.

How does the booking process work?

It’s so easy.:)Once we pick or build you a package, you’ll receive a Booking Proposal, which includes your contract & the payment information. It’ll walk you through everything and once we both sign, we’re officially booked!

Will you hold our date until we decide?

Booking with me {and many wedding vendors} operates on a first-booked, first-served basis, and especially for spring, fall, and holiday dates, as they get snapped up quickly! So no dates can be held until the contract is signed and first payment is received.

- Style -

How would you describe your aesthetic?

Light, airy, emotional. I’m really big into emotions, honesty, capturing who people really are, laughter, smiling.

Do you prefer posed or candid shots?

Candid, hands down. My portrait style is a sort of hybrid, involving setting up shots and just letting you go. Kind of like a spinning top or a wind-up car.

Do you prefer color or black and white?

It completely depends on the image. I always let the image tell me what it needs to be. I think that both color and b&w have their places, but ofttimes I’ll put my favorite shots, the more emotional ones, in b&w.:)

What type of equipment do you use?

I shoot with a Nikon D700. My go-to lenses are my 85mm, 35-70mm, and 50mm. I also have an unobtrusive light set-up I bring to every wedding.

Do you provide retouching or other corrective services?

All of the images you get from me are retouched, finished, and print-ready.

What’s your favorite cost-cutting tip?

For weddings in general, don’t forget who you are. It’s really easy to be swept away in this white-washed WIC world of favors and tulle, but if you don’t care about something being in your wedding: DON’T HAVE IT. Especially if it’s an expense that’s not worth it for you. Also, make sure the Doing It Yourself is worth the time spent and the money saved. And make sure it actually DOES save you money!

- Day-Of -

How will you and your assistants be dressed?

All black, like ninjas, most of the time.:)Though sometimes, depending on the season and the wedding specifics, we’ll do a lighter neutral. Number one goal is to blend in and sink into the background while maintaining comfort and flexibility.

How many pictures will you take?

There’s never any way of knowing how many images will be taken, but you CAN be sure that you’ll walk away with between 300-500 awesome shots. Short answer is: PLENTY!

Can I give you a list of specific shots we would like?

What I would LOVE is a list of things, items, and moments that are important to you that I might not know about. What isn’t necessary is a generic list from Google; I’ve got those shots covered! You just let me know if there will be a special moment, like someone being thrown in the air, or a special item, like your grandmother’s antique shoes, and I’ll cover the rest. Rest assured, we’ll have an in-depth conversation about the specific people and details that matter most to you!

Do you take the traditional posed family portraits?

Yep, though I a) make it as quick and painless as possible, and b) feed off of you guys. So if you want only one huge group picture and that’s it, we’ll do it. If you want individual shots with everyone who came, we’ll do it. Just know that this time directly affects how much time we have for couple portraits and how soon we can get you to your reception!

- Just in Cases -

Do you bring backup cameras and equipment in case something breaks or goes wrong?

Always. This is also another good reason to always have a second shooter, as well.

What happens if you show up late or can’t make it to the wedding? Who will take over?

Neither of these things has ever happened to me, and I don’t ever expect it to. However, hypothetically, it would completely depend on the situation. If I were running late the morning of the wedding, I would make sure my second shooter was set to arrive on time and they would fill in for me until I could arrive. If I was on the way to a wedding and some act of nature prevented me from being at the wedding at all, I would locate one of my peers with similar packages and prices and pass the wedding to them. All of the money paid to me for the wedding would go to them. This is the same thing that would happen if a few months out, I suddenly couldn’t attend the wedding due to emergency surgery, illness, etc. No matter what happens, I would do everything in my power to make sure that your wedding was covered.

- Aftermath -

When will my proofs be available?

Between 4-6 weeks after the wedding. Depending on the products in your package, you should have everything in your hands within three months of the wedding date.

Do you post proofs online?

I sure do. With every package, you get an online gallery for sharing, viewing, and print ordering. The gallery is a great way to show everyone your images without having to pass around your master disc of images. No monkey-in-the-middle!
