Lake Lanier Wedding // Jack & Gary

Jack & Gary have always held the lake in special regard, it being a huge part of the early days of their relationship and remaining a huge part of their lives today, so building a Lake Lanier wedding is the only thing that made sense and felt like it spoke of their love accurately.

They carried the boating and lake themes throughout the day, from their suit and accessory colors, from their ceremony semaphore flag decorations to the candy boat {a handmade boat filled with candy} at the reception.

The two exchanged some of the most heartfelt letters before the ceremony. I didn’t even need to see the contents, just to watch their faces, to know that each knew exactly what to say, exactly how to share what was on their hearts on their wedding day.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

The whole day! Honestly, the entire day is one big, happy memory. Especially memorable was all the fun we had on the dance floor. It was packed! We had such fun dancing surrounded by our loved ones – culminating in them lifting us up over their heads during the final song. Such a wonderful, joyous, and celebratory memory.

Funniest moment on your wedding day?

The wind! Getting married outdoors, by a lake, opens the door for all sorts of weather variables. We happened to get married on a particularly windy day, which resulted in a number of funny moments during the ceremony. Gary nervously fidgeting with the microphone, in an attempt to quiet the wind noise, had everyone giggling.

What were you most anxious or nervous about regarding your wedding day and how did it turn out?

The weather! Planning an outdoor ceremony and reception leaves you completely at the mercy of Mother Nature. Around a week out, the weather forecast looked especially grim – lots of rain forecasted for the whole weekend. Jack was particularly anxious (obsessive?) about the weather. In the end, it all worked out. Mother Nature has a sense of humor – while not a drop of rain fell all weekend, the wind nearly knocked us over. In the end, we spent a lot of time worrying over something we had no control over, and everything worked out exactly as it was supposed to.

What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?

Our biggest piece of advice is this: don’t sweat the small stuff! Obsessing and worrying about every little detail is natural when planning a wedding; however, there will be hiccups along the way. Was every little thing perfect? No. But the tiny imperfections along the way gave our Big Day character and made us realize how PERFECT it really was.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?

We would worry a little less and eat a little more. Checking the weather forecast four times a day changed nothing except our blood pressure. Also, despite our married friends’ advice, we didn’t eat nearly enough at the reception. We ended up eating cookies and candy in our hotel room at 2 AM – could be worse!

Any tips for future couples on how to prepare for their wedding photos?

Know what you want ahead of time and communicate accordingly. We knew that the photos that will bring us the most joy years down the road are the fun candids and action shots, so that’s what we communicated.

Jack & Gary, thank you SO much for having me at your Lake Lanier wedding!
