Y’all don’t even know how long I’ve been wanting to shoot a Zoo Atlanta portrait session. I don’t even know if I know how long I’ve been wanting to. AND IT. WAS. AMAZING. There’s something that I love about shooting in a public place, like how everything changes in a moment: the lighting, your surroundings, and not to mention the animals! You never know how things will turn out, and the challenge is intoxicating. So when Niki & Morgan told me about animals being hugely important to them, we immediately started planning a zoo portrait session.

One of my favorite ways to play portrait sessions is to split them in half: the first half will be us out doing something, or in-home making drinks or food. Giving you something to do and allowing you to relax into your element. This prepares everyone for the second half, where we head to another destination and now that we’re nice and relaxed, you don’t mind having so much attention on you for your photos! It’s a delicate dance, andĀ I love figuring it out.

The second half of their session was an easy one: Morgan’s family has land that is now an Atlanta greenspace and it’s filled with meaning and memories for his family. So we headed there and explored, climbing over treacherousĀ terrain, adventuring among the ruins. I love that this session was doubly meaningful for them!

Niki & Morgan were just married in Atlanta earlier in the year, so be sure to check that out too!
