32 Years and Still Smiling

This sitting with my parents came about from my mom putting “pictures of Dad and I for frame” on her Christmas list. I’m not the kind of person to jump right to doing pictures of people but this was something I knew I had to do for my parent or mostly for my mom. After Christmas the thought of taking pictures for the frame kind of ran from my brain and I forgot about it. While thinking of something to shoot for Raven this sitting for my parents seemed like a wonderful idea for me to break in taking pictures of people and practice posing as well as do something nice for my parents. My mom would have been happy with pictures of them on our porch at the house but I knew I wanted these to be special.

I prepared myself the night before by looking at all sorts of couple posses and thinking of places around us that would be a great setting for these images. I felt prepared but still was a little nervous on how the images were going to turn out. The day started out cloudy and I thought that would be great so the light would be even on their faces but by the time we got out to take the pictures Mother Nature had other plans for the weather and made it bright and sunny. I think this was probably better because it was pretty chilly outside and I didn’t want my parents to freeze.

Before my parents and I got comfortable the images seemed to be missing something but after the pictures seemed to fall into place. All the posses I had written down and had in my pocket for when I was totally lost didn’t need to be pulled out. I guess with my parents being married for 32 years they didn’t need me to direct them. This was great because I’m horrible at directing people anyway.

For me I think this was a great sitting for my parents and I to do together. One because my dad has been so busy he hasn’t had much time to spend with my mom and two it was really great to see them happy and giggly after 32 years of marriage. I think it would have been great to have had a chance photograph them when they first were engaged and compare it to now. I think it’d be interesting to compare and contrast their lost at those completely different time in their lives.

I was extremely grateful that I could help my parent capture some precious moments that will soon be in a frame for years. I know it made my mom happy so it was worth going out in the cold. I know I would be lucky to have a marriage like they have and a love that is still going strong after this many years. Love this session and Love them so much!
