I’ve always had a healthy obsession and fascination with folklore, fairy tales, and folk tales. Retold fairy tales are my absolute favorite genre of novel; I love seeing the same familiar tales in new ways!
And this interest is a funny tie-in to my life as a wedding photographer. Every wedding has similar elements: a couple in love, flowers, formal wear, dessert, groups of people coming together to celebrate community and togetherness. They have a getting ready, a ceremony, a reception {a beginning, a middle, and an end?}. And within those elements are the familiar tales being told in new ways, seen through new eyes. And it’s my challenge - and what I love about wedding photography - to see these people and these events for who they are as people and to show the beloved characters with a new spin: the spin that makes these people who they are, what their love looks like.
The idea for this Eastern European Folklore Wedding Inspiration & Styled Shoot specifically was spawned from months of conversations with Robin from Rhapsody in Blooms. She also shares an affinity for folklore, and especially the aesthetics of the 1900’s time period in Russia, the Romonov family, and Eastern European mythology in general.
So we decided to take the idea and run with it. We wanted bold & bright colors counterbalanced by a pastoral setting. Opulence and farm land. All with the flavor of folklore.
I hope you enjoy seeing this shoot as much as I enjoyed putting it together with this unbelievable team of vendors. {Full list at the end.} Thank you all SO MUCH. <3
