Patel Wedding Day

My first experience shooting an Indian wedding was an amazing one. The colors, the details, the smiles and laughter during every part of the day: it was all AWESOME.

It came with its own brand of challenges. Not only was it our first Indian wedding, so we were being introduced first-hand to traditions and ceremonies we had been previously unfamiliar with, but everything was FAST. We also had a total of four people shooting on the third day. FOUR. So we were constantly watching out for three other people in our viewfinder. Always making sure our shots were capturing what was important, while remaining artistic, while not getting in each others’ way or capturing the same shot as someone else.

And then we ran out of space on the hard drive we’d brought. So day three, the day of the wedding ceremony, was an exercise in patience and timing as we took measured shots and did our best not to “machine gun” {that is, shoot rapid fire}. But the results were awesome.

I learned SO MUCH shooting this way. I think it may be a permanent change.

We really felt like a part of the celebration at this wedding, and I’m so grateful for that. We had a blast.

In case you missed the mehndi ceremony from day one, or the pre-wedding ceremonies of day two, check them out.

They were all leading to this.
