Every couple I meet is different. They have different career paths, are into different things, have different senses of humor, and interact differently. Sarah & Kendall’s style didn’t fit in with “traditional” engagement shots, which typically involves a bit more posing {or at least set-ups}. So for their session we planned a full day of capturing who they are, both as individuals and as a couple.
We started the day with a lifestyle session, following them throughout their home and just letting them naturally interact with each other. They ate supper, drank wine on the porch, cuddled in bed, watched TV and read together, and played with the dog in the park. It was just beautiful proof of how they spend time with each other, being honest and themselves.
Then we drove around to some specific street art pieces that are meaningful to them and their relationship, getting a little more silly with each shot {which is just fine by me, considering what we were leading up to!}.
After the clown noses, we broke out the Holi powder in a nearby park and I let the girls just COLOR FIGHT it out. I was there with suggestions, of course, like “do a hand out like a magician,” or “throw it in the air!” The colors were gorgeous and there was so much smiling and laughter and just love radiating out of both Sarah & Kendall.
I honestly could not stop smiling when I was going through and editing these shots. It makes me happy just to see their joy.
They’re planning on getting married sometime next year, probably in the spring, and I was fortunate enough to shoot their engagement session. It was, in short, a BLAST. And I felt like it was perfect for showing who they are, which always means so much to me.
