When I used to work in the fast-food photography industry, we had to shoot in a specific style. We had boas & angel wings, and were expected to use them, especially during newborn sessions.
That, in case you haven’t noticed, is not my style.
As a photographer, shoots with me are lifestyle. I absolutely adore themed styled shoots and sessions, but when it comes to family, newborn, and children’s portraits, the theme is YOU.
I don’t hang babies from trees. I don’t put them in fruit. I typically don’t pose them. And I don’t plastic-ify them in Photoshop.
The important thing to remember with any children’s portrait session, is that we’re hear to capture the moment. We’re hear to document who this little person is at this point in time. What they like, what they don’t, the faces they make, the truth of it all. The honesty and beauty that is your child, your family.
The C family was one of the families I had the absolute honor of spending time with during my last trip up to Virginia. We shot their newborn photography session in-home, focusing on their Tiny Overlord and who she is.
We took tons of breaks, shot her sleeping, shot her crying, shot her with mom, shot her with dad. Even changed outfits a number of times. She was a trooper, and mom & dad were AWESOME.
Thank you, C family. You guys were so much fun to hang out with. ![]()
