Working together: Couples Shoot with Victoria and Eric

I was just thinking the other day: all of the photographers I have met in my life are nice people. Like, really nice people. I don’t know if it’s a matter of living in the South, or if we are all just a naturally well-dispositioned bunch. Anyway, one of my favorite thing about the world of photography is how willing most people are to collaborate and help one another out, and that’s what this shoot was all about!

Victoria is a photographer based in Columbia, SC. We got to know each other through a Facebook group for photographers in the Southeast. After chatting a little bit, Victoria approached me with the idea of doing a trade shoot. She wanted some new photos of herself, as well as some with her boyfriend, Eric, and she offered to take some of myself and my fiancé, Ryan, in exchange. Of course, I loved the idea! Ryan and I hadn’t had engagement photos done yet, as I am always too busy behind the camera to think about being in front of it - plus, I was excited to shoot with a couple who knew something about photography. It was a win-win for both parties.

We decided to shoot these pictures in the morning light, which meant that we had to head on down to Columbia from Greenville at an ungodly hour, but it was totally worth it.

Lens flare seems to be one of those love-it-or-hate-it kind of things, and I gotta say, I love it.

You might not guess it from the way these two smiled through their whole session, but it was REALLY cold outside. I was having trouble operating my camera because my hands were so cold!

Our location: the State Capitol. Luckily, on Saturday mornings, the grounds are fairly deserted and we had the whole place to ourselves.

These two love to dance!

I had a great time working with these two, and I’m looking forward to continuing to collaborate with other photographers in the future!
