Melissa & Dan’s Atlanta wedding was one of the most moving experiences of my life. I was so honored to be a part of their day and felt completely swept up in the moment every second of the day together. There are a couple of traits that I always seek out in couples when they come to me to photograph their Atlanta wedding {or their wedding anywhere else!}. Some of those traits include a laidback attitude and wanting to celebrate their community. Melissa & Dan absolutely hit both of those marks, and the day was a glorious one.

Their ceremony included a group meditation, a loved one playing a Tibetan singing bowl, a ring warming, and some of the most meticulous flower girls you’ll ever see. They wed on the riverside on a sunny day with the river flowing gentle in the background. The combination was intoxicating: helping me really feel full of life and close to nature at the same time, something I can always get down with.

Their cake was one of the most outstanding I’ve ever seen, the horse and unicorn masks a DELIGHT to everyone in attendance, the vegan food was PHENOMENAL, and the acro yoga reception display was fascinating and inspiring. Make sure to check the bottom of the post for vendor information!

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Melissa: Opening my eyes after the meditation and seeing Dan in front of me. Taking those few moments to stop and slow down allowed me to really feel present and enjoy each moment of the ceremony.

Dan: Seeing Melissa come outside before she walked down the aisle with her parents. She looked so happy and so beautiful. Her smile made all anxiety melt away.

Funniest moment on your wedding day?

Our nieces were spreading flower petals around us and one of them kept going back and picking up any stray flower petals and rearranging them to get a perfect circle.

What were you most anxious or nervous about regarding your wedding day and how did it turn out?

Melissa: I was worried that I would feel nervous having a bunch of people staring at us, but we were so focused on each other that I really didn’t notice!

Dan: I wasn’t really that nervous leading up to the big day. I think I felt a little anxious in the hour before the ceremony started but that didn’t last long.

What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?

Figure out up front how much money you want to spend and work within your budget. Knowing how much money you can allot to different things really simplifies the decision making. It is definitely possible to have awesome food and a great time without spending a fortune.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?

We might have had someone make announcements for food, cake, toasts, dancing, etc. That part felt kind of disorganized and rushed to me, although the guests disagreed. Also, we didn’t dance together as much as we wanted to.

Any tips for future couples on how to prepare for their wedding photos?

If you have the luxury of doing some photos ahead of time, go for it. We had an early wedding and had to set up and get ready ahead of time so that wasn’t possible, but it would have been great to have more time to eat appetizers and hang out during the cocktail hour. Our caterer was thoughtful and brought us a small plate of appetizers while we were taking photos. Make sure you get that if you don’t want to miss out on anything.
