An Alice in Wonderland-inspired Portrait Session in Dacula

I’ve always been a huge fan of adaptations. Specifically Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Shakespeare adaptations, but I even love seeing different peoples’ takes on things I didn’t even like in the first place {like Jane Eyre, a novel I dislike, but the adaptations of which I love}.

So it only makes sense that themed shoots based on literature are completely and totally something I’m into.

This shoot is a sibling portrait session for their mother for a Christmas gift, a concept I wholeheartedly support. Their mother is a huge Alice in Wonderland fan, so it was obvious when it came to picking a theme. Kellie played the part of Alice, while Nick played the part of the Mad Hatter.

We worked on designing this session for a few weeks, figuring out exactly what they should wear, what the hair & make-up would be {natural, but slightly stylized}, what props & decor we wanted. In the end, our tagline was “boho hipster Alice,” and short of the fog machine {way too windy}, it’s exactly what I had in my mind.

So here go you, people: complete proof that family pictures don’t have to be anything traditional or anything like what you’ve seen before. They really can be a complete reflection of you {looking-glass reference intended}.

Make-up by Melanie Mae Senecal. Wardrobe, some props, & sheer awesomeness provided by the clients.

Thank you guys so much. It was an amazing shoot to work on with you awesome, awesome people.

Please note that not only is the Hatter peeking, but he’s handed Alice the cards right-side-up. <3 Favorite.

My name is Raven and I shoot amazing couples and their amazing weddings, both traditional and offbeat. I always look for wedding clients who like to have fun, are creative, and love to laugh. Along with weddings, I shoot engagement sessions, family portraits, children’s portraits, senior portraits, boudoir sessions, and just about everything in between. I’m based north of Atlanta, Georgia, but I’m available for and love travel world-wide.
