Oakland Cemetery Wedding Styled Shoot // Katie & Ben
Our Inspiration
Coming up with the idea for this shoot was an easy one: my dear friend Robin of Rhapsody in Blooms and I have long been fans of turning narratives on their heads and of showing ideas that aren’t getting the light in the wedding industry. Showing couples that they really can build anything they want for their wedding {also their marriage, but that’s a different article altogether}. So when I started dreaming up the bare bones {pun not intended, but always appreciated} of a cemetery shoot at Oakland Cemetery that was gothic, but not in the way people are used to seeing it, I gathered some amazing vendors who I knew would get the idea and run with it.
I worked with an amazing real-life couple for this shoot, Katie & Ben, who are amazingly talented filmmakers. I love working with fellow artists and I ALWAYS prefer working with real-life couples when I can! There’s a chemistry and an ease that they bring to the shoot that can’t always be replicated.

Bridget N. Cox of Novah HMU started Katie, our model bride, off with a simplistic look that we then amped up to 11. She brought drama and romance at the same time, pulling off hella Stevie Nicks witchy woman vibes, especially with the the dark lip she added at the end. Robin, of the aforementioned Rhapsody in Blooms, built a stunning bouquet full of rich mustards, deep greens, and purple-browns. The overall effect was stunning effect: ghostly and ethereal, bringing an antiqued feeling to a modern color palette. Bekah, of Bekah Bea Bridal, brought an array of black dresses and separates for us to play with, and you’d better believe we took advantage of the opportunity. From lace and tulle to bell-sleeves and empire waists, we played with a number of looks that all fit in so perfectly with what everyone else brought to the table.
