Intern Hannah - Library Shoot at Furman University

This week, I got to do a shoot that I’ve been wanting to do ever since I started school at Furman: a library shoot.

I remember the first time I took a tour of Furman, about 4 years ago. I’d been around campus a few times, but I’d never been inside the library. As soon as I stepped inside, I was in love. There were books everywhere, and so many neat little nooks and crannies for curling up and reading. I couldn’t wait to spend time there as a student. Flash forward four years, of course, and good ol’ “James B. Duke” doesn’t have quite the same appeal to a Furman student; it’s the place of all-nighters, last-minute panic, and wrestling with the printers to get that paper ready before class starts.

With this shoot, I wanted to re-capture some of the magic of the library for those of us who like to read… because it really is a gorgeous place. My friend (and fellow Furman student) Allison’s style and personality worked perfectly for this shoot, so we arranged to get up early in the morning before everyone got going on their studies.

I think it’s always good to have goals for each shoot I go on, and today, I was working on shooting more deliberately, per Raven’s advice to us. Sometimes I tend to just fire away and take way more pictures than I need, so for this shoot, I tried to make each shot count.

I think we might be the last generation of kids who had to learn how to use these card catalogues in school… they might not be as fast as computers, but they definitely bring back memories.

Allison even had this little book charm necklace, which I thought was absolutely adorable and appropriate for our shoot!
