Nerdy Barn Wedding in South Georgia // Savannah & Travis

Savannah & Travis know how to throw a party. I mean, DAMN, they know how to throw a party. Their nerdy barn wedding was such a cool mix of elements. There were rustic and geeky, tractors and Rocky Horror, jeans and bow ties. We did their engagement session at the Botanical Gardens, when I really started to get to know them… And, honestly, I was a pretty big fan from the beginning.

They both have been a part of Lips Down on Dixie. That means they’re the resident troupe for the Rocky Horror performances in Atlanta, and most {if not all!} of the cast was at the wedding.

Their whole day was hilarious and fun and full of shots and silliness and love and awesome barns that Travis’s dad built just in time for the wedding. ENJOY!

Photos from their Nerdy Barn Wedding:

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Travis: It is hard to choose. I had a whole day of awesomeness. I still think the garter crawl will be the top moment from the day. But being married to my best friend has got to trump everything from the whole day.

Savannah: I think for me the most memorable moment was when I was walking down the aisle, I was still thinking about everything that needed to be done and making sure that everything I had delegated had been done right because I am too much of a control freak, and then I looked at Travis, and nothing else mattered. We were finally there, and I didn’t stop looking at him until we walked back down the aisle together. I will never forget that feeling of peace and rightness that came over me walking towards him.

Funniest moment from your wedding day?

T: Going to grab the garter. I was told to get down on my hands and knees and crawl like that for maybe 20 feet to my wife to get the garter. It was a good time.

S: The funniest moment was definitely the garter toss. The DJ made Travis get on his hands and knees and crawl to me and our 5-year-old nephew ran out on the dance floor and jumped on Travis’s back as soon as he was on all fours. He stayed on until I finally made Travis stop so that one of his cousins could come get Connor off of him. Incidentally this made for some of the best pictures as well, the reactions of everyone in them are priceless.

What were you most anxious/nervous about regarding your wedding day and how did it turn out?

T: I really wasn’t nervous about anything, the day was going to go how the day was going to go.

S: Because I spent the whole day with my bridesmaids getting ready I didn’t have a hand in actually decorating at all. I made most of the decorations myself with the help of my bridesmaids but I didn’t set them out so I had no idea how anything looked until it was happening. It was very hard for me to release complete control of the set up. But I really didn’t need to worry! Our wedding planner, friends, and family who helped set up did an amazing job of carrying out my vision for the day.

What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?

T: Whoever is the smartest let them handle it and you will have no worries, but still do it together because it is y’alls big day not just one or the other.

S: Have fun and make it 100% you. There are so many things that tradition tells us “you have to have” at a wedding. But the only thing you actually have to have is a licensed officiate and the couple. We got rid of the traditions that would take up extra time we didn’t have or that didn’t matter to us, like dollar dances or a million toast, and we added some that most of our guest had never heard of. I had to explain to several people what a hand-fasting was. And no one had heard of burying a bottle of bourbon before.

In fact, I only knew about it from wedding forums and it’s another little random thing that made for awesome pictures. Design a wedding that showcases who you are as a couple, and as individuals. Our tables were covered in books for me, Legos for him, and had nerdy elements mixed through that we both loved. When it’s all said and done, it’s your day, no one else’s, so you should have fun and be yourself.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?

T: I wouldn’t change a thing. We had great weather even though it was on the warmer side of things but that is better than being cold and having to wear five layers of clothing.

S: The only thing I would change is my dress, as beautiful as it was it was way too big and too hot for an outdoor august wedding. I ended up spending most of the night drinking water just to keep cool and everyone wanted me to dance more but I felt bad because my dress took up most of the floor, so I was sneaking away every chance I got so that there would be more room for my guest to dance.

Any tips for future couples on how to prepare for the wedding photos?

T: For me it was easier to just be myself because I’m not really one to “act” in photos unless I am being told to and then again my acting is fairly bad.

S: Just relax, and have fun. My favorite photos are the candid ones I didn’t even know were being taken. I love my posed ones were I look poised and classic, but the funny faces my wedding party made when they took that shot of bourbon with me are priceless. Travis doing the cupid shuffle with all of our friends and family, my sister and his cousin high-fiving because they got the most applause when they were introduced (besides us)… Those are the ones that really make me happy, those are the ones that bring back the most vivid memories of the day, and that’s the reason we spend so much money on pictures!

You won’t wear the dress again, fresh flowers will die, the cake will get eaten or go bad, the DJ is there for 4-8 hours then he is done, but the pictures will last forever, and they will take you back to the happiest day of your life. I’m so happy I choose Raven to take my pictures. Every time I look at them I get caught back up in the day and relive those moments. It was the best spent money of the whole day.
