Having played string bass in the orchestra for 7 years I am a bit of a sucker for Performing Arts. Having played in the pit for MANY musicals I’m a double sucker for theater.
When Raven sent the email out about shooting a local theater production of the Little Mermaid I couldn’t make my fingers type fast enough to respond with any dignity. I don’t remember exactly what the response what but I think it was something like “Oh oh pick me, pick me!”
Being able to shoot the dress rehearsal was even better because we had free reign of the entire place. No audience to worry about, nothing being thrown at me for being in the way, no stray purses to trip over. Just us, the cameras and the performers.
Of course that just sounds too easy right? Well…yeah so maybe it didn’t go quite that smoothly. I still managed to get Raven and Chris both in several shots, I’m pretty sure I still managed to walk right into a few of their shots, and do we really need to talk about the numerous times I tripped over my own two feet, or the steps, or just thin air for that matter. My inability to walk straight is the reason for such a heavy insurance policy on all my gear!
But anyway….the shoot went great and as much of struggle the low lighting was I’m still crazy-happy with the results.
