A life experience story:
I never took senior photos when I was in High School. I was extremely self-conscious, had low self-esteem, and it just wasn’t really something you did. Further than that, this was during a really cheesy time in the professional photography world. Even at the time, I knew it was bad. My yearbook picture wasn’t great, either, though it WAS one of the better ones from the four years.
I regret not having really awesome senior photos while I had the chance. If I had been able to find a really great photographer who would work with me on making the session my own, on making really pretty and flattering images of me, I would have been ALL OVER IT.
My best friend in High School, Hannah, went and had a senior session done, though. I, of course, accompanied her. And this guy was NOT one of the photographers I was looking for. Aside from being slightly creepy {always nice, right?}, he was very fond of feather boas and straight-out-of-the-80′s “glamour.” I’m talking about white gloves and the tilted head glamour. Full-on cheese!
Hannah’s mom even asked for him to take a couple of shots of me, since we were so close, and he visibly hemmed and hawed about it before finally giving in. I don’t remember what he said, I don’t know if I ever saw the images, but I’ll tell you how it made me feel for almost the REST OF MY LIFE: unphotogenic and unattractive. To this day, even though I don’t believe in people being unphotogenic, I sometimes catch myself feeling that way, again. I’m now able to stop and correct it, but it stayed with me.
So that’s one of the reasons I want so badly to provide a really awesome senior photos experiences to my clients. I know how it is to have a bad photographer at such a delicate time of life, and I wouldn’t wish that on ANYONE. Because it stays with you.
Years from now, when my clients are grown up and showing their friends & family members their senior photos again {because they just can’t help it; they love the images!}, they’ll remember that we had a BLAST shooting together, and they’ll remember that they felt good about themselves, good about BEING themselves.
And that’s the most important thing, to me.
Brianna and I set up an autumn senior photo session, featuring a bunch of super cute outfits & a jersey from her favorite Green Bay Packer’s player, and even working in her goofball boyfriend, Zac. Hair & make-up by Melanie Mae.
Thanks, Brianna. You’re awesome, and were SO much fun to shoot. ![]()
