I’ve known Laken for what seems like forever. She’s been around for almost as long as I’ve been shooting: modeling for a number of shoots I’ve organized or been a part of in the past. I’ve always thought she’s the cat’s pajamas, so I was PSYCHED when she and Dane asked me to be a part of their wedding. For their nerdy engagement session, we had so many awesome ideas we had to reign them in and narrow down a bit {although I’m still determined to get down to Disney with them for a session someday soon!}, which is absolutely a fantastic issue to have.
Laken & Dane are huge into their fandoms, and video games are a big part of their relationship, so we knew we had to include them in their engagement session however possible. They also own a home together, where they live with the esteemed Dr. Watson the super-excited-to-hang-out basset whom I couldn’t give enough pets to, and some very shy kitties. So we knew we wanted to include the furbabies, the home that has been a huge part of their lives recently, and as much weird, nerdy - and maybe slightly creepy - stuff as we could fit into our time together.
We start at their home, moved to Battle & Brew for nerdiness and video games, and closed out at the Oakland Cemetery, a favorite for both Laken and myself. We both really adore the vintage vibe, the ancient trees, and I’m utterly obsessed with their new greenhouse!
To say I had a blast working on this engagement session with them would be the understatement of the year. I love hanging out with these folks just as people, and they are a joy to be around and to photograph. They’re up for anything, appreciate my bizarre-ness and bring their own to match.
