Intern Hannah - On My Own

In the spirit of Les Miserables, I think these lyrics would describe this week’s session well: “I’m on my own / there’s no one here beside me”. Reason being: I couldn’t make the intern meet-and-greet and our first shoot with Raven! A sad day indeed. However, I decided to get some practice in on the same topics the other interns would be working on: lighting and posing.

With these topics in mind, I booked a session with Eliana at a great location: my absolutely gorgeous campus of Furman University.

I work with a lot of semi-pro models in my fine-art work, who usually know how to pose with little direction. While Eliana is absolutely gorgeous, working with her was more like working with your typical client, who needs a little bit of direction - so this was great practice for me! (She took direction very well, and has a naturally beautiful smile, so I wasn’t too hard pressed to get good photos of her.)

As you can perhaps tell, we chose to shoot this session during “golden hour” - as the sun was beginning to go down - and use available light, extended by the use of a reflector.

Luckily, Eliana’s brother helped me out with holding the reflector (camera right). We tried really hard to get him to join Eliana for a few pictures, but he declined. His help was very much appreciated, anyway!

After taking these pictures by the lake, I thought I should try to find a less typically - photographed place on campus, and so we made our way to the fountain behind the library. Here, I wanted to push myself to come up with a few more unusual poses.

And here’s my favorite from the session…

Well, even though I didn’t get to meet everybody, I think I still had a pretty productive week. I can’t wait to meet everyone next time. Until then, I’ll just keep singing and shooting!

Cheers,

Hannah
